The preparation depends on the ground and the surface being installed. Where required, the work includes removing the old surface, preparing and compacting the supporting base, and setting out drainage and edges. These details provide support for the finished driveway and help manage rainwater.
Install the surface and finish the details
We install the chosen surface and complete the agreed borders, joints and connections to paths or steps. Before you use the driveway, we explain when vehicles can return and how to care for the material. The timing depends on the surface and installation conditions.

What affects the cost of a new driveway?
The area and material are only part of the price. Removing the existing surface, improving the base, access for equipment, drainage and details such as steps or borders can all change the work involved.
When comparing quotations, check that they cover the same preparation, materials, waste removal and finishing work. A price per square metre is useful only when you know what is included.

Questions before booking driveway work
Can you replace an old driveway or use the existing base?
We can replace an existing driveway. Whether any of the base can be retained depends on its condition, stability and levels, and the requirements of the new surface. The existing appearance alone is not enough to decide; this needs to be assessed on site.
How long will the work take, and when can I park on it?
The programme depends on the area, preparation, material and weather. Finishing the installation and reopening the driveway to vehicles may happen at different times, particularly where a material needs to cure. Ask us to confirm the expected programme and vehicle access arrangements for your project.
Can you assess a sloping driveway or a tight entrance?
Yes. The gradient, space to turn, entrance width and route to the house all affect the layout and surface choice. Tell us about access difficulties when you enquire, so these can be considered during the site assessment.
What if water collects on my current driveway?
Mention where it collects and, if possible, share a photograph taken after rain. The cause could involve levels, the existing surface or drainage. Changing the top surface alone may not resolve it, so the quotation needs to reflect any additional work identified during the assessment.
